  1. Like the previous posters have mentioned, catfish will eat anything they can get, providing its got a strong scent, chicken livers, hot dogs, spam all work great, the older the bait is the better it works, they go by scent.

  2. Catfish are predators and will eat anything alive or dead! Ive seen a 25lb Flathead eat a 16 inch bass. .

  3. Catfish seem to be pretty fond of any stinky sharp tasting cheese. I've caught them using simple pieces of cheddar, although I've heard of people using dough with parmesan cheese mixed into it to catch them.

  4. Catfish are scavengers.  they will eat anything on the bottom that they find edible. I know a guy who fished for them using gummy lifesavers. In my experience I have never met one catfish bait that works better than another. The biggest and the most catfish I have ever caught were caught on night crawlers. I like using them for the simple fact that they are easy to manage, don't get your hands all messy compared to  chicken livers, and do not smell like total A$$.  The single most used bait for cats is chicken liver. and the more skilled (older) fishermen use cut bait such as shad, herring,  even bluegill ( if your state allows) alot of other places even  allow large goldfish to be used as bait. So, I would suggest just sticking to the basics.

  5. those suckers will eat anything.

i have caught many catfish on bacon and sausage

  6. Anything they can fit in their mouths that is edible.

  7. Chicken liver

  8. go to wal-mart and get Bar-S hot dogs, they're cheaper than dirt and work great. just remember if you put the unused ones in the fridge make sure nobody eats them!

  9. liver, night crawlers. just about anything with a smell. lol

  10. Josh,

When I do fish for cats I strictly use fish for bait. Shiners, mullet, bunker, bluefish, they all make great catfish bait. You can catch these fish in a net or with a rod & reel. You can freeze them and they still work great. Blues and bunker are oily fishand leave a good scent trail in the water, while shiners and mullet are a good visual bait. If you cut the fish into chunks it releases the scent into the water faster and the fish will find it easier. Best of luck & tight lines!
