What do cats in a dream mean?

I've been having this strange variation of the dream for about two days, I'm running from someone and I'm trying really hard to protect this little kitten in my arms....so any ideas what that means? Thanks. Also the cat/kitten that I'm trying to protect stays with me through the whole dream.

Your dream is not really about cats because the cat is only symbolic for something else.  Perhaps you are attempting to protect your self worth or your innocence from individuals who you consider dangerous.
