What do cats mean in a dream?

every time I have a dream and i see a cat, i feel so calm and so happy! So happy, especially when i get to pet them!!! Once in my dream i saw a black cat and i remember saying OMG that's bad, this is very abd, but a man there looked at me and said no he will not harm you, he's good for you. and at that same moment i felt so calm. the only time in my entire life i had one dream where i was trying to calm a cat down but i couldn't he was so mad, but i kept trying. That was the only time i had a bad dream about a cat and i felt panicky, but all my dreams with cats in them to me are so calm and relaxing.

Cats represent female sensuality...note how a cat luxuriates in her body, how she stretches and purrs contentment.  The polarity of that is when they are freaked out...leave them alone and they will re balance themselves.  If I try to pick up my male cat and make him come in at night he hisses and fusses so we are talking cats here  and not dogs.  It is good to know the inner nature of the animal that you are dealing with and act appropriately.  Perhaps that is what the dream might be indicating.  And as for dream symbolism, it is culturally connected.  Freud for example  thought that purses referred to the uterus.

According to the dictionary of dreams a cat symbolizes treachery and deceit but american indians hold it as a symbol of good luck.  To be scratched by one symbolizes bad luck, but to kill one is a good omen denoting triumph over enemies. Just the image of a cat expresses an angry,discontented mood.  The kitten symbolizes joy and happiness at home but to be scratched by one predicts an unhappy married life.
