i am not asking sarcastically, After years of seeing celebritiess demanding ("Give us your fuc*ing money!" - Bob Geldof) money for their causes, I am genuinely baffled.

Assuming (it's a big assumption) financial aid alleviates famine & child poverty, then surely if people like Bono, Kylie & others with literally hundreds of millions of dollars/pounds are better placed than hard up working folk, who often give more than they can afford any way?

People say,"they bring attention to the issue," but they make me switch off the TV as soon as they start. I give what I can, I don't need lecturing by multi, multi millionaires.

I recently read of Mohammed Al Fayed, one fo the world's richest men, raising money for an incurably girl. fair game, but he could have found the cash without blinking. But that would spoil the game.

I watched a famous singer talking dewey eyed about starving children, literally sitting in the most palacial mansion I have ever seen.

Seriously, have I missed something?

  1. It has more to do with awareness than obtaining money. Celebrities do have the money to donate to the cause, but they are only one person. With their celebrity, they can influence a large number of people to want to help. Politicians usually ignore problems unless interest groups or the public and media make a big deal about it. People put pressure on politicians to do something and create policies that help those in need. For example, Clooney, DiCaprio, and other celebrities constantly talk about Darfur hoping that the US will do something about it. By riling up constituents, celebrities can influence policy changes to help support their cause.

  2. Meanwhile mothers here are forced to set up their own charities to get help as the condition ADSL is not medically researched enough to be recognised. How's she meant to care for her two parraplegic kids when all focus is put of wantenly ondulgent hypocrites..... Best of luck and good fortune.
