I've been watching a few Anime that have mentioned cherries when some thing bad happens or if about to happen and then I read a Manga and someone says "I told you, you shouldn't have eaten the cherry!" then they where attacked. If anyone could tell me what cherries represent in Japan I would be really happy.

  1. For most Japanese, cherries conjure up an image of affluent farmers in Yamagata, Tohoku first and foremost. Sometimes they are prohibitively pricey. By far the most money-making fruit. So my wild guess is that the guy in the manga added,"They cost $100 each!" and they were arrested or something.

I don't know what they represent symbolically or mythologically.

  2. I don't think cherry represents something bad in Japan. What you have seen is special cases described in those animes only.

Cherry blossom is national flower of Japan. It's seen as good one.

  3. i think there's nothing to do about it.
