  1. They love nuts.

  2. Berry's, Nuts, seeds, grass, and what ever humans feed themmmmmmm........................!

  3. The chipmunk spends most of its time collecting and storing food. This rodent forages on the ground for seeds and can also be found climbing trees or shrubs to harvest nuts and fruit. Chipmunks eat a varied diet, including birds' eggs, insects, worms, mushrooms and when need be, small mammals or birds.

  4. i had 5 pet chipmunks and they ate peanutt and nuts mainly!

  5. Chipmunks eat nuts and seeds and any other vegetation that they take a liking to, like flowers, etc.  They love Pine nuts, and are one of the principle benefits to Pine forests because after they get the nuts from out of the Pine Cones, they bury many of them in the ground to get later when food is scarce.  But, the little rascals "forget" where they put many of these nuts, so, bingo, they've planted new Pine Trees, and helped the forest grow.  They drink water from ponds, streams, and lakes, or from dew on leaves, etc.  These little rodents are also food for  foxes, weasels, Bobcats, snakes, and birds of prey.  Their "unnatural" enemies are domestic dogs, cats, and kids with sling-shots or BB guns, and especially people that build on and destroy the forests where they live.

Chipmunks, like all forest wildlife, help keep the forest, and our planet, healthy.  We need to appreciate that.

I had about 8 pairs, each pair in separate cages, and raised them for a short while during a film I was working on about Chipmunks, and research I was doing.  They do NOT do well in captivity because they need a "great deal of room" and are very flighty and nervous when held in a confined space.  You have to really know what you are doing to care for them and watch for their welfare.

After the film was completed, I took them all back to where I'd caught them and turned them loose.  They were greatly pleased to be back home in the wild.  I could tell by their actions.
