  1. I'm not a college student (anymore) so I don't know the current hot spots, but if I was 18 I'd check out places that let 18-and-older shows in like Reggie's Rock club (http://www.reggieslive.com/), the Abbey Pub (http://www.abbeypub.com/) and the Metrohttp://www.metrochicago.com/). There are a few other venues that host 18 and older shows. You can also go hang out in Wicker Park. There are a few coffee shops that occasionally have live music.

I assume you're at Loyola's Lakeshore campus, since that's the one with the dorms. If you're up in Rogers Park, there's an arts festival this weekend with live music (Glenwood Arts Festival - http://www.rogerspark.com/master.htm?http://www.rogerspark.com/specialfeature... YOu can also go to the Morseland, a restaurant/bar that features live music, but since you're 18 you have to be out by 10 p.m. (http://morseland.com/index.php?option=co...

But to answer your question, yes, people party at the school. But since you're 18 and can't drink at the bars, you might want to make some friends and find out where they go to party.

  2. Some go to bars, clubs, or shopping. Chicago have just about everything NYC have, but on a smaller scale.
