Do colleges generally look at the classes that people take, or focus more on just the gpa?

  1. Colleges look at your GPA but obviously if you have a high GPA with advanced classes you are better than a person with a high GPA but really easy, slacker classes.

    They also look at your community service, what clubs you've been in, teacher recommendations, and if you wrote an essay or not.


  2. They look at how rigorous your high school courses were. If for example you have a 2.2 GPA with chorus, music, art, drivers ed, shop, and basket weaving making up most of your high school electives then I would not count on a competitive school seriously considering your application. However if you took course like AP Calculus with a 5, AP Chemistry with a 4, AP Physics with a 4, and AP English with a 4 with a GPA of 2.75 you might be able to some competitive schools to consider you due to the fact your courses were challenging.

    Another area that they look at are extracurriculars and test scores. So you can say they look at the whole picture and not just one part of it.

  3. it all depends..in general the better the school, the more varieties they will judge you on
