What do comapanies do that make them so rich?

I hear about all these companies that are so rich.How do they become rich? Please list some rich companies and tell me what they do. Like whether it's stocks or whatever.

Companies combine resources to create value, whether it is 1) extracting raw materials, 2) combining labor/capital/raw materials to manufacture goods or 3) putting the right product in the right place at the right time.  There are many other variations, but companies  actually create wealth by combining less valuable resources.

Examples of companies that are among the largest in the world are Exxon (oil), Toyota (car manufacturing) and Wal-Mart (retail stores).
