  1. Pilots are paid per hour depending on seniority and the size of the aircraft. Most companies have a 75 hour guarantee per 28 days for pay. FAA regulations state that commercial airline pilot can fly no more than 100 hours per month or 1000 hours per year.

Here is a site that has the hourly rates for different airlines based on seniority and aircraft size:

From this you can see that starting as a first officer for a regional jet carrier you get paid about $22 - $25 an hour. This equates to about $20700 a year.

Here are the salary numbers for 2006 commercial airline pilots:

    Median annual earnings: $53,870

Lowest 10% earned less than: $24,300

Top 10% earned more than: $120,070

    Other things to note:

When you start out flying, unless you get your pilots license from the military it will take about $30,000 out of pocket to obtain your commercial pilots license. When you start for a regional carrier you can expect to make about $20000 - $26000 a year for your first 5 years. You work awkward hours and can be away from home for 2-3 weeks at a time. Come home for 3-7 days (3-5 is typical) and then off on another trip. The pilot who make $150000+ a year are becoming less and less because each year there is an increase of about 10% in pilots world wide. Greater supply means less pay per pilot. Being a pilot isn’t as prestigious as it once was.

  2. commercial pilots start out at about $40,000 and start to move up quickly. a caption easily makes any where from $100,000-150,000

  4. Regional airlines as low as $20,000 year - $65,000 for a captain - A captain on a majorairline can make well over $150,000 a year
