I have watched this on TV so i know all about it.

They arrive at places where murders have happened after everyone else.

They then meet with an ex lover and have an argument.

After that they shout at the PCs for walking through the plastic red and white ropes.

They then poke in the mud with a pen.

Then they talk to a phsycologist who is trying to work out their problems not the murderers.

Then they have an argument with their family and get drunk and sleep with the lover they had an argument withn earlier in the day.

Then they shine a blue light at old clothes after putting postit notes on a piece of glass.

In my experience....

they arrive three days after the event,

stand in the middle of the room,

look around a bit,

make strange noises ('tchh', 'hmmm', 'weeeeeeell')

use the end of a pencil to move anything which obviously wasn't involved.

make sure that the victim isn't doing anything wrong (god help you, if you - the victim - dare to suggest that the new gypsy site, just up the road, had anything to do with a burglary - it means you are an evil racist)

they then suggest that you lock your windows and doors (no s**+te, sherlock)

then they go on to the next poor b@stid, just up the road, (the same distance, but other side of the gypsy camp, funnily enough) and do the same thing

I think they collect evidence and decipher clues eg. possible entry exit methods etc.

(Except in Portugal where they just trample over everything and sneeze on the fingerprint powder)
