  1. Well...diplomats do many things.  Whether they are military attaches, economic officers, public diplomacy officials, or administrative/management officers, the most important thing is that they represent the interests of their own governments to the host country.

Political officers come in several varieties, some report to their home country on the political/domestic situation in the foreign country, while others work with and advise host country officials on how to better govern.  Whether the advice is taken or not depends on many factors of course.  Legal attaches liaise with host country law enforcement, military attaches train and observe foreign militaries.  Part of the diplomatic mission is to provide consular services to their own citizens as well as host country nationals (i.e. visas and such or something like emergency passports for their own citizens).

Diplomats are the implementers of a country's foreign policy--they act as liaisons between their home and host country--they are the official government representatives in a foreign country for whatever basic specialty they are trained in.

    Does that make sense?

  2. Kiss *** and lie for their goverment.

  3. Diplomats usually deal with foreign relations, that is any talking between the governments of two countries is done through diplomats... there are people who are specifically employed to be diplomats but any official member of the U.S. Government can be a diplomat (e.x. when the president is visiting another country and talking with leaders of that country he is acting as a diplomat even though that is not his "full-time" job)...
