What do directors and producers do?

In detail please, I'm sort of confused, it doesn't sound like they'd have much to do.

directors tell everyone on stage what to say, how to say it, where to go, what to do, and how to do it. The show is there vision, and the producer just makes sure that everything is ready, sometimes they are in charge of props or tickets. my mom produced a show and she had to get there first, schedule all the rehearsals, make all the food, lock up. etc. it requires some effort
