  1. IT SOUNDS LIKE THE DISK HAS FAILED.YOU CAN TRY TO UNINSTALL THE DISK PHYSICALLY AND THEN RE-INSTALL IT AND RESTART THE PC.THIS WILL USUALLY HAPPEN IF YOU HAVE INSTALLED ANOTHER DRIVE INTO ANOTHER PC AND BIOS WILL NOT RECOGNIZE THE HARDWARE.BUT,LIKE LEDGE SAID,ITS MORE THAN LIKELY A FAILED HARDDRIVE.

  2. If you can't boot to the XP install disk then it's more then likely your HDD.

  3. with a windows XP boot disk, when it starts reading the CD.. press a few buttons on the keyboard.. you might be missing the 'press any key to boot from CD' message (you generally only get a few seconds to comply before it continues to boot normally)

  4. while your starting your computer continually click ( i think) F11. If it isnt F11 try the others but it will come to a menu. Put in the Installer Disk and Boot Directly from the CD

  5. If you have another computer you can try getting an external enclosure and hooking it up to another computer via USB.  You can then use a program to put it onto a new hard drive.
