  1. They basically have the exact same structure except ethanol has an oxygen atom.  Ethane is C2H6 which has two carbon atoms that are bonded together and each carbon atom has three hydrogen atoms attached to it.  Ethanol is the exact same structure except that one of the H atoms is replaced with an O-H.


  2. Ethane is a saturated hydrocarbon having 2 carbons in its chain C2H6. If you replace 1 of the H atoms with an OH group, you form the alcohol, ethanol - C2H5OH.

  3. They both have 2 carbons.
