fenech in my opinion was one of the best pound for pound boxers, but at 44, i think it is a mistake, he is fighting the guy he took his first world title from, samat payakaran. he flogged samat, but the last fight jeff had he was beaten by a sth african who wouldn't of got near him only a few years b4, so what is the point, and why do bovers make comebacks, larry holmes, that shouldnt of happened either.

if you have troulble recalling jeff fenech of australia, google his name, he was a tough bugger, thats for sure.

  1. Unfortunately, he will lose again but that is the only thing he was great at, nothing else he did come close, so he miss the celebrity status and the roar of the crowd.

  2. He shouldnt do it . It is sad to see greats getting beat by fighters who  couldnt have touched them  in their prime.. A career in the ring should be a short one.

  3. i don't think this fight has been sanctioned yet, talk of a million dollars for the fight is just that, talk.

as far as fenech goes davo, as you know i think he is a real champ, or was, he should just retire and let us have the great memories he provided for us, he doesn't have to prove a thing to me.

when i think of Australia's greatest fighters i think of jeff fenech, Lionel rose, johnny famechon, spelling?, Lester Ellis, so he is up there.

mundine don't rate with me, he fights too many duds.

  4. I think it's doomed. Most fighters make botched comebacks because of greed and the fact that a lot of them have mismanaged there finances but have also become accustomed to a wealthy lifestyle. He'll look like an amatuer.

  5. i remember fenech very well, and was hoping he got to fight barry mc guigan and antonio esparragoza, but it wasn't to be....but his two fights with azumah nelson cemented the legendary status of both of them (fenech in the first, nelson in the rematch),

it's a shame when any fighter, and particularly a great fighter, makes a comeback, fenech hasn't fought since '96, and payakaroon hasn't fought since '94.....so nothing will be gained from it.

if samart wins, it will not diminish fenech's win in '87 for the jr featherweight title (actually fenech's second world championship).

the reason fighters make comebacks is simple, they believe that they still have that one good fight left in them, so they come back and for the most part struggle with inferior opponents, or get soundly beaten by good (great) ones..........or sometimes the reason is financial.

i wish jeff all the best and hope he changes his mind and abort any thoughts about returning to the ring.

  6. Jeff Fenech is not coming back against a young fighter its someone his own age and hes getting a million dollars for it that's not to bad... Gannoway says Jeff Fenech was only good at losing he won three world titles at different weights undefeated  and should had got the decision first fight with Nelson that would,ve been four  ..been the first man in boxing to do it undefeated
