What do green beetles eat?

recently my neighbor's daughter caught one in the garden and she wants to keep it. so any help?

If you are talking about a june beetle, they can be pests to fruit. So i would assume a thin skinned fruit like a fig, peach, plum, blackberry, grape or apricot, but they occasionally feed on plant sap.
