  2. we used to feed my hamster little wheat thins, haha, he liked them ;) mini whetes too:P

  3. ok well if u don't have hamster food, they eat:

seeds- like pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds

veggies- lettuce, carrots, and almost any kind of veggie!

  4. There is still a lot of controversy as to what to feed our small pets. Because hamsters typically come from arid regions in the wild, it's generally believed that a diet of 75% pet block and 25% seed is best for hamsters supplemented daily with fresh fruits and veggies. The reason for this being is that in the wild a hamsters natural diet would consist primarily of seed because this is where they would obtain a majority of their water. (seeds naturally contain moisture) However, most if not all of the seed mixes on the market today contain quite an excess of seeds mixed in with some more healthy tidbits. Rodents are just like children and if given the choice will pick out what's more appealing to them rather than what is good for them. That is why a diet of 75% pet block is necessary because the block contains all of the nutrients the hamsters require and doesn't allow them to avoid what's healthiest for them. In fact, if needed, the blocks could even be fed as the hamsters sole diet.

A good brand of pet block is Mazuri Hamster & Gerbil Diet as well as Hagen Nutriblock. A good brand of seed is Hazel Hamster. Learn to read food labels and avoid any foods that contain chemical preservatives such as Ethoxyquin as research has shown that consuming foods that contain said preservatives can cause serious medical problems. Kaytee and Nutriphase are a few brands that do contain Ethoxyquin and are best avoided.

As far as fresh fruits and veggies, take it slow when introducing them to your pet to avoid stomach upset. With hamsters it is especially advisable to avoid foods with high moisture content most notably iceberg lettuce. If you have a dwarf hamster, limiting the amount of fruit you serve is advisable as they are prone to diabetes and too much sugar is not good.

Also, if you're not too squeamish you can occasionally give your hamster meal worms, most preferably the freeze dried kind. They are omnivores after all and would most likely appreciate it. ;)

  5. mainly seeds and vegetables they love carrots!!!!! you can also get hamster yogurt bites at wal mart or pet co and they love thoughs too!

  6. food

  7. their plastic houses

  8. if u go into any super store like a walmart or publix, then you just go into the pet isle and there will be a bag that is for hamster and other types od rodents, and it's basically stuff like, corn, seeds, and other things that are healthy for them.

  9. Hamster food.  The healthiest kind are the little pellet things, that is much better for them than the mixed seed kind.  Also, fresh fruit and veggies, just stay away from iceberg lettuce, it can give them upset tummies.

  10. Hamsters should eat a mix of food. You can buy  a bag of all the things they need to eat at a pet store. This normally includes a mix of sunflower seed. pellets, and lots of other kinds of seed. You should also some fresh fruits and veggies( no citrus, like no grapefruit) once every 4 days. Take them out after a day so they don't go bad. They should always have access to fresh clean water. You can also give them three or four plain, dry, uncooked oats once a week. My dwarf hamster really like his oats, apples, bananas, and carrots. Whatever you give them, they need to be given in small amounts. If you want to give them something watery like cucumber, give them VERY little.(no watermelon though.) If given too much they will get diarrhea. For a complete list of healthy foods, go to http://www.hamsterific.com/Nutrition.cfm... If that doen't work just go into google and type in healthy foods for hamsters. Hope this helped!!!

  11. I feed my Syrian's harry hamster food and also fish(cod, salmon, tuna, prawns), carrots, cooked potato, turnip, spinach, nuts, seeds, bread lots of stuff we humans eat, hamsters can eat too.

I also feed them cheese they had no problem with it and love it.

    cooked eggs they love.

Don't feed them iceburg lettuce or garlic. Spinach they love that stuff. Rocket leaf. Apples they love them and dried fruit.

  12. Hamsters eat pretty much the same as what  birds and squirrels eat. They can eat nuts, and seeds. Some hamsters also like eating fruits and veggies. You should probably consider buying a 'salt wheel' because this helps their teeth.

    Good luck!
