  1. It depends on the hospital and their volunteer program.  I volunteer at my local hospital and I am a Patient Comfort Ambassador.  I visit with patients, provide them with information as requested, help them with their food trays, give light touch hand and foot massage, help them obtain information, arrange for visits from clergy, etc.  We also have high school students who need community service hours.  They work at the reception desk, deliver flowers and mail, work in the gift shop, etc.  The best thing to do is contact the hospital where you wish to volunteer and ask to speak with the Volunteer Coordinator.  They will schedule a meeting with you and explain everything in detail.  Most applications ask you what areas of service you are interested in and will try to place you in an area you find interesting.
