  1. They fly to where it's warm

  2. Most migrate to warmer climates.  Some are non-migratory and stay put year round (Anna's Hummingbird).  Remember, hummingbirds main food source is actually insects, not nectar..so flowers are not required at all times.

  3. Like many other birds they migrate south.  Cuba, Central and South America are the usually over wintering areas for North American hummingbirds.

  4. They fly south to Texas, then on into Mexico.

I'm going through a gallon of food a day now, and will until they start to thin the middle of Sept. A few hangers on until the end of October, then they leave.

Think they'd let me hitch a ride?

  5. Hummingbirds go where the food is, so like many birds they migrate, here is a map of their migration, and the website for more hummingbird information.

  6. They leave the Northeast where I live and they'll be headed on South. Along the way they'll be fed my many and when there's no sugar water available they still love their flowers. Mine always come here every year and have their little ones on my property. I really look forward to seeing them out my big window every day. I feed them sugar water that I've made but they also love my Fuschia plant with the red and purple flowers.
