  1. get McAffee. its the best, if there is something on your computer- it'll find it. if not..

    Your drive could be bad?

  2. To me, it sounds like you have a short in your wiring.

No virus can instantly shut down a computer the second you hit a button. If the computer starts to shutdown (in the standard process), then you may have a virus.

However, my guess is that the drive is damaged in some way, and the computer shutsdown as a failsafe to prevent damage to it.

    Test:

Start the computer and go into the BIOS (normally by hitting like F12 during the bootup sequence). Once inside, press the eject button on the drive. If the computer shuts down then, you know it is a hardware problem because a virus will not be running in the BIOS stage of the computer's startup. Remember, a virus is a program. Any program can be found and halted.

  3. First of all, you scan it with other software. There aren't any antivirus programs that catch 100% of all the viruses on your PC.

Or try HijackThis! which can be downloaded at download.com. Let HijackThis scan your computer, then post your results on their communtiy forum, and let a supernerd tell you what to do.
