i can't go to the dentist.

However, I noticed this weird crevice in my tooth. It is in the back. It causes discomfort when you touch the spot. I used a toothpick.

Since I won't be making any trips to the dentist soon, anything i should/can do?

I hear you can like get an infection or something from a cavity.

  1. Hello, Hey just explain to your dad that he can take you to the nearest Dental College "Out Patient Clinic" and get the dental service you need and most likely the service will be Free...or at least at a very low fee. Just call the Clinic and make an appointment...The longer you wait the more risk you run for being able to save the tooth. Good luck and I wish you well.

  2. You need to go to a dentist. If anyone could take care of their own cavity without professional care, then I'm sure everyone would skip out on their cavity checkup with their dentist.

  3. Keep an eye on it.  Brush it with some good anti-cavity toothpase and after a few weeks, hopefully it'll help or reverse the cavity.  However, you should still go see a dentist.  It could get infected, eat away at your tooth until there's nothing there, and cause some pretty bad pain.  Doesn't matter what kind of situation you're in.  Go see a dentist.

  4. You need to go to the dentist. A cavity will not go away on its own, it will only get worse and you will end up needing a root canal. You can tell your dad that a cavity can be filled for less than two hundred dollars but a root canal will end up costing over two thousand.

  5. Let me put it like that: You can have a cavity for a year and the cavits will just eat deeper and deeper into the tooth.

However, as soon as it gets down to the 'flesh', meaning through the tooth, you will get an infection and need a root treatment, which is painful, time consuming and more expensive.

I don't know why you can't go to the dentist, but there is not much you can do by yourself. Let a dentis 'check it out' that shouldn't cost too much and you can see how bad it is.

Having an infected root is not fun.
