  1. If you're happy with your current job, why are you leaving? It sounds like you think this other job will look good on your resume and help you toward some ultimate goal. What is your ultimate goal at this point? If you asked  this in the Career section, they'd probably be able to give better advice. If you do leave, do it on really good terms so that if the other job doesn't work out, there's a slight possibility you could get back your old job.

  2. What do you eventually want to do with your life? Is there any room for advancement in your current job when you can be promoted, possibly to your dream career, and make more? How long do you think your current boss will be in their current position?

If you see this new job working with inmates as an opportunity towards where you want to go, and with the added bonus of paying for school, I'd take it. And school is so expensive! Talk to somebody in that field, see if the stress level is something you can deal with. Once you get your degree you'd be better able to change jobs more easily and even land a job as an exec assistance making more money.

If you do decide to take the job, give your current boss 2 wks notice. She's been in business long enough to know that when an better opportunity presents itself, you should jump ship immediately. You can also make the effort of keeping in touch with her after you move from the company. Just coz you are loosing her as a boss doesnt mean you have to loose her as a friend.

  3. Write a polite letter of resignation that basically says: I've enjoyed my time at _(Company's name)__ but I have choosen to seek other employment opportunities. My final day will be ___.

  4. not sure what kind of car you have but after taxes you will probably be spending the extra 500 on gas. the school is a definite plus. inmates, not so much. i would stay where i was if i were you, but you know your life plan, i dont.

  5. This is one of those follow your bliss moments....  Not something we can give you guidance on.

If the new job is a stepping stone to a better career for you and that path is important to you, you may want to take that step.  However, if where you are and what you are doing makes you happy and offers you perhaps another path than the one you were on, you may want to stay.  It just comes down to what you want for your future.

The best way to figure this out is ask yourself this....  Where do I want my life and my career to be in 5 years?  What do I want to be doing?  And which career path is most likely to get me to that place?

Answer those questions and you may find the direction you are looking for.
