What do i do if i've lost my MOT certificate and need to get my car tax??

My car tax is due today and i've completely lost the MOT certificate!! What do i do? I usually keep all that stuff in a folder of mine but i've only got last years in there and i've searched the house completely. I know, it stupid to leave it last minute so no need to say, i've ben seriously ill, university finals, moved house etc. Anyway, what do i do. I've got everything else, i need to drive today but not again until thusday. I'm close to the garage i got it done at and have the receipt from the thins needed on my MOT which has the date on etc, can you get another printed.

Argh what do i do???

Do it online ;-) The new style MOTs are recorded on the DVLA database. It will know your car is MOTd (and when it's due!)

You can get a duplicate from the garage.  In the meantime, though, renew your tax online and while you're doing that the DVLA computer will check for both a valid MoT and valid insurance.  If it finds them, all sorted and your tax disk will arrive in the post virtually by return.

no problem just go to the garage you had the mot done at and you can buy a duplicate

I renewed my tax in April - went to the post office with all my documents, and was told by the assistant that I didn't need to show my MOT as it's all on the computer.

You still have to show your insurance certificate thougth.

apply for your car tax on line, your mot certificate will be in there records and it only takes a few days to come through, sorry it isn't an instant fix

You can obtain a duplicate MOT from the garage for about £10 or so. The DVLA computer is linked to the MOT one so if you go to get your tax disc, the Post Office system checks online whether you have a valid MOT. However, many PO staff don't realise this so you may have an argument!
