I lost my wallet at the beach, it has a copy of my ss card i copied on the copy machine "I still have the real one at home", and my i.d. in it.

Should I new ss card "even though I have the original one still", or should I get a new one.

Is my identity at risk? if it is what should I do to prevent any problems?

  1. Your identity is at risk. Call the credit bureau and have them place a hold on future translation

  2. You need to report this to any one of the three credit reporting agencies and ask that a fraud alert be put on your account.  Use the SS card you still have and this time don't carry a copy of it.  If you file a police report, you will probably be able to get new ID free of the usual fees.

Keep a keen eye on your credit report, pulling a free one every four months by rotating companies.
