It hasn't happened, she isn't supposed to give birth for another week and a half, I'm just trying to prepare myself and get the supplies I need. Thanks!

  1. this happened to me, my sons cat did,nt chew the cord and come to find out it was all twisted into a ball i had to very carefully cut the cord like an inch from the belly i tied it off with dental floss since i had no string, and then the next one i had no choice i had to do it otherwise the kittens would have died.goodluck

  2. If she doesn't chew the umbilical cord, then you have to cut it with sterilized scissors.

    Congratulations!

  3. Before you cut it, you should get some hemostats, you can probably find these w/ fishing supplies. I can't remember if the groves should be running vertically or horizontally to cut of the circulation of blood, so call your vet to ask. Then cut w/ sterilized stainless steel scissors sissors about 1/2". Once it clots, remove the hemostat. If you cut it too long, your kitten will have an outtie & too short will be hardly a belly button.

  4. The cat will take care of everything just fine.  The best thing you can do for her to ensure her safety is to have her spayed when the kittens are 6 weeks old.  Otherwise she will get pregnant again.  Every time she is bred, you expose her to diseases like FIV and Felv.  These are both potential death sentences for her and the kittens she has as a result of the breeding.

Every day thousands of healthy, adoptable kittens are killed because there aren't enough homes for all of them.  Be sure anyone who takes any of your kittens will spay or neuter them.
