give them my wallet and run? what is the likely hood that they will shoot at me if i run? Also what if someone comes to my door and claims that their car has broken down and they need to use a phone - I'd be too scared to let a stranger into my home for fear of getting raped or something. On the other hand, i would like to give them the benifet of the doubt and help them in some way..

  1. For the first............throw your wallet to the ground and run. For the second.......don't let them in. Call the police and tell them about the stalled car. In this day and age of cell phones, I would find it hard to believe that a person would not have one...........

  2. Get a concealed pistol license so that you can defend yourself. If it's just a wallet they want, some people would argue just give it to them. You may have no choice initially.

However, once they have your wallet, they know where you live.  They may then have pictures of your family, etc.  I don't think giving up a wallet is such a benign thing b/c then you have to worry about whether they'll come back for you later now that they know where you live.  Money and credit cards are replaceable, but it's hard to restore piece of mind to yourself and your family after such an event.

If someone points a gun at you, that constitutes threat of death or great bodily harm, and you would be justified in defending yourself with a firearm.  You will NOT have time or opportunity to call police, so don't rely on them.  Take your safety and protection into your own hands.

Alternatively, you could move to an area with a high percentage of concealed pistol license holders, as decades of evidence-based peer-reviewed research (e.g. http://www.law.harvard.edu/students/orgs... has shown that these are the safest places in America with the lowest violent crime rates.  Whatever you do, don't move somewhere where guns are banned b/c the violent crime rates are higher.  There's no deterrent to the violent criminals in those areas.

  3. If you are robbed at gun point, then the best thing to do is give the robber whatever they demand. If you do then you are more likely to keep your life. If you resist, then the robber would more likely become more violent.

If somebody comes to your door to use a phone, DO NOT let him or her in if you do not know the person! In today's society you really can't risk that. Most people have cell phones nowadays so don't give them the benefit of the doubt if your safety is at risk!

  4. give the dirtbag what they want and cooperate to the fullest. No amount of cash is worth dying over and these thugs will kill you for $10 these days.

  5. For the robbing thing, give them what thy ask for, and make sure they put the gun back into the holster before you run.

And the stranger thing, bring your phone to them, or make sure your parents are home. and watch them when they have your phone so they dont take it.

  6. If someone comes to your door and you're a girl and you're home all alone DON'T EVEN ANSWER THE DOOR!!! TRUST ME!!! If you go to the door to talk to them and they know that you're all alone, they will bust through the door and attack you (if they are a burgler or a rapist of course).  Not everyone who comes to your door means harm, maybe its a kid selling candy, and anyway everyone has a cell phone these days, so if someone came to your day asking to use your phone, i would find that a little shady, don't you think?  Listen, if you're a girl and you're home alone, no if and or buts about it, you MUST have all doors and windows locked, even if you think its someone you know or a friend coming over, call their cell phone and ask them if they're at your door to make sure its them, and not some crazy freak.

I also suggest buying a gun, but if you don't feel comfortable having a gun in your house, buy a taser.

If you're home alone and someone comes to your door, even if its a woman, don't answer it, no offense, but you're a girl, better to be safe than sorry.

And for the part about getting robbed by gunpoint, if that ever happens you're pretty much screwed in the first place if someone has a gun drawn at you and you're unarmed, what i would suggest is to carry a taser with you at all times, and stay out of bad neighborhoods where it is likely for you to be attacked.

  7. "what do i do if someone tries to rob me in a parking lot at gun point?"  I'd do exactly what he says, make no move to strike a conversation or give him any indication that you are trying to memorialize how he looks or sounds.  Recently, NY tried and convicted a deranged man who horribly abused a college student who's room he burgled - the college student may have made the tragic mistake of trying to humanize her captor, hopefully to dissuade him from doing...the horrible things he ended up doing.  The likelihood is that the defendant was too insane to realize the danger the student was putting them both into by making this stranger a man she'd find it easier to identify.  Assume that your assailant isn't too crazy to know when he's being scoped - don't try to be studious enough - don't give your robber any hint that you're the type who will be able to pull him out of a line-up or (if he's been arrested before) a photo-array or mugshot book.

If you run, there is some likelihood that he will shoot you - unfortunately, a lot of crime's more violent consequences are impulse driven - a couple of guys stopped for a ticket shoot the officer.  It happens.  What you want to happen is for the guy to leave you quickly - give him an escape route and have him take it as soon as possible.

Never let a stranger inside your home - he should have a cellphone.  Tell them you'll call a tow truck for them, but they're not coming inside.  You can help them w/o giving them the benefit of the doubt.

  8. As to the robbery, give them what they want and get away. Money is not worth your life.

As to your second question, NEVER open the door for someone you don't know. You can make the call for them.

  9. If you can shoot them first, shoot em. They are threatening your life.

You really shouldn't draw if they have their gun pointed at you. Who knows they might get careless.

Give em your wallet. Better yet, toss it on the ground and then shoot them.

Perfect reason why everyone that can, should carry a gun. Bad stuff happens to good people. An armed society is a polite society. If a criminal knew everyone carried a gun, would he try to rob you? It is a lot less likely.

If possible, always keep your gun handy while at home. Especially if someone is coming over- ie repairman, etc. Use caution. Talk to them through door. Offer to call someone for them. Dont let them in your house.

I recommend this to anyone but especially women. Take steps to protect yourself. Take classes, buy a gun and learn to use it. Legally carry it- everywhere you can.

Would you rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it? I am sure every liberal woman would wish they had had a gun when they are tied up in some pervs basement for a few weeks. (Watch the movie "trade".)

Be proactive. Even more so if you have kids. Could you live with yourself if something happened to them and you knew you could have done something to protect them?

Always be aware of your surroundings whether armed or not. Look behind you. Dont stare in a daze at that traffic light. Notice who is around you and beside you at the light. Keep your doors locked. Dont walk near any cars in a parking lot. The list goes on and on. Take self defense classes. Some local PDs offer this.

  10. ahh, yeah give the person robbing you, your wallet promptly. don't try to be a hero just hand it over. don't take off after you give it up cause most purse snatchers are druggies and they are tweaking so sudden movements might scare them into firing at you. Then depending on where you are (if a public lot, like a supermarket parking lot: Go inside the store and call.) If a private lot, like an apartment complex lot, knock on every door and make as much of a scene as possible.
