had an ingrown toenail with an infection last year i was put on antibiotics that didnt get rid of the infection, i got the surgery where they clip out a part of your toenail and kill the root. the doc also "scooped out" the remaining infected part.

everything was fine until first week of june when i got an infection again in the same spot, no ingrown toenail though. went to the doc and i got bactrim DS (antibiotic) which didn't help at all, by the end of the week the infection was worse and it had spread, i went to the doc again and i was put on doxycycline for 10 days that definitely helped but didnt get rid of the infection completely i finished that like a week and a half ago and the infection seems to be growing again :( what should i do?

  1. Get back to your doctor.  Ask that he run a culture to determine if you have MRSA.  That will require a much more aggressive treatment including IV antibiotics.  Don't wait around on this as it could spread into bone and require surgery.

  2. sounds like you need either stronger antibiotic or a take them for a longer period.......

it's back to the doctor for you.......

now you are on a three day weekend and are convinced that the infection is returning........so.......

call his office...this is  a holiday weekend.......tell the answering service this is an emergency.........he will call you back.......then after you describe the problem.........he will call in a prescription to the local pharmacy

    good luck
