ive been playing guitar for 2 1/2 months and i go 2 my guitar tutor every 2 weeks. he taught me chords(g,em,am,d,c,dsus4,dm,e), he taught me how to work a metronome and is trying 2 get me better on my timing, and he lastly taught me rythm, how to move through chords quickly and have a melodic tone 2 it. we were supposed 2 ahve a lessson last week but he canceal so next week i go. its gonna be a month(next week) when i fiannly have another lesson. i was thinking i have 2 learn some things on my own because i have 2 learn other things when im done doing what he wants me 2 do. i learned the gmj,gm,cmj,cm barre chordes on my own. i learned the aminor penatonic scale and the g minor pentatonic scale and i also learned a couple of songs(intros, theme songs, main riffs). what else should i learn, i wanna show him that i have been working over this period when we did not have a lesson. i play the guitar for hours everyday because i love playing, even though i can't really put notes 2gether.

  1. what he has teached you is very good. now, just like me when i was learning, i wanted to get over with what he was teaching me as fast as  i could, and that's the spirit

you mentioned the minor pentatonic scale, well, let me tel you that the scale works on every fret. here's the key signatures for the frets:

    open-e

    1st-f

    2nd-f#

    3rd-g

    4th-g#

    5th-a

    6th-Bb

    7th-B

    8th-C

    9th-C#

    10th-D

    11th-D#

    12th-back to E

you can start trying to solo. he'll be really inpressed with the improvement, once you have a coherent solo.

here's website that gives you riffs to solo to-click on cafe-jam session

    chordbook.com

  2. Try two things:

    1) Listen to some of the old blues masters. Lightnin' Hopkins, for one. Just sit there and listen to that old dead black man pick that thang. "Goin' Back Home" would be a good start.

    2) Get the fire in your belly. If you want it bad enough, you'll feel it. I had it, once. I let it go. My boy got it. He still got it. Usta say he'd by strings before he bought food. That kinda fire.

Learning chords is fine; playing to a tickin' machine's fine. But playing from inside...that's a whole 'nother thing.
