  2. Join the Diplomatic Corps.

This is a civil service career, in the Foreign & Commonwealth Office (UK), or the equivalent Foreign Office department in the Australian Government/Civil Service.

There are variouus 'ranks' in the diplomatic corp. The top most being and 'Ambassador', or 'High Commissioner' for Commonwealth countries.

A 'Consul' is the next step down, and a consul is usually given  a consular office in a provincial city/town.

There is also a 'Charge d'Affaires', as far as I am aware this is a post used when then there are no formal ambassadorial relations between two countries

To become a consul/ambaassador, Educationally, you will need English, Maths, French and another language. Geography, History and Politics would also be good stand'byes.

You will need to be fluent in both spoken and written foreign language, and with a strong sense of diplomacy.

Approach the civil service/Foreign Office for the levels of entry, be they GCSE, A-levels, Degree or International Baccalaureate.

    Good luck!!!!
