What do i do to marry a non us citizen?

i live in the US and met a girl from australia. her visa ran up and she had to go back to australia. we have talked and we want to marry so she can come back. one person said its as easy as her flying back and signing papers at the courthouse. is this true? i dont know where to begin.

She has to get another temp. visa before she can come back and before she can get her citizenship you guys have to live together for 6mos. as a married couple and if they don't believe you.  She gets deported and you go to jail.

It is partially true that it's like you said, as easy as her flying back and signing papers at the courthouse.

However, doing that does not allow her to remain in the US afterward. It can also be construed as immigration fraud, so don't do it.

The usual way for an unmarried couple to get married and for the foreign national to remain in the US legally is thus, basically:

First, you must be a US citizen. The US citizen must file form I-129F with US Citizenship and Immigration Services to request for a fiance visa. Once approved, the petition is sent to a US embassy abroad, such as the one in Canberra, Australia, and allows the foreign national to apply for a K-1 visa there.

Once the visa is in hand, the foreign national may enter the US. The couple must get married within 90 days of the foreigner's entry into the US. After marriage, the foreigner may apply for adjustment of status and registration of permanent residence (i.e. they apply for a green card).

Keep in mind that that option is not available to you if you are not a US citizen; you only said you "live" in the US, not that you're a US citizen, so keep that in mind.

DEFINITELY NOT TRUE. do not do that, it might be fast at first, but may cause you problems when it comes to filing for a green card. You can apply for a K1 Visa. That is not too hard to do but takes a while. You can find the info on http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/...

No man,  I know a pilot in the air force who wanted to marry an Australian girl, and his process was not that simple.  

First you need to apply for a K1 fiance visa. Search and download  forms I-129F  the instructions are on there.
