hey, well i have this athletic, energetic one year old cocker spaniel puppy. she is so full of life, so i walk her every day for like an hour or so. but that is not the point; i love playing with her outside, but i just can't stand the summer heat! and my dog won't bring me the toy that i throw, back to me. so, are there any ways for me and my puppy to play around, but so she will actually run around, without me getting scorched by the heat?!?!

  1. Try a State Park With trees Or Walk Your Dog Earlier/Later.

  2. You said she will not bring back the toys. So teach her to.  Take two toys, this works best with balls.  Throw one,  when she gets it show her the other one. Get her attention so she comes to you with the first ball. Tell her drop, or out, then take the first ball from her.  Then throw the second ball.  And then repeat the same steps over.  The trick is to not throw the second ball till she give you or drops the first ball.  Most dogs pick up on that very quick.

  3. Mental exercise works better than physical for wearing dogs down.  On really hot days, I walk my high energy dog at night and during the day do a lot of short, fun training sessions and games.  We play hide and seek sometimes.  We learn new tricks, work on shaping behaviors with the clicker.  Look up tricks and see what you can find.  We're teaching a lot of freestyle type moves right now.  Taught her how to crawl, hit marks, back up, etc.

Or if you have room, you could build a flirtpole and see if she likes that.  My dog has no interest in toys so that doesn't work for her.

  4. well there's the option of teaching her fetch which iknow you said she wont do, but she just get it. teach her that.

another option could be playing frsibe which is the same concept but she might find it more entertaining plus she'll have to jump!

  5. Bring her inside to play it should be okay for a few minutes. If the heat is that bad she needs to come inside or you can get her a small kiddie pool and fill it with a couple of inches with cool water so she can cool off. Dogs can get strokes and even with all that energy she'll try and be still so she doesn't get overheated. In the heat it's okay for her to be lackadaisical. Heat makes anyone one tired and feeling nasty.
