Okay i am an American...and after a traumatic event (dont really want to talk about) i went through a few days ago, i am fed up living in america...i will suffer through it probably a couple of years as im about to go to college...and i will need to get a job before i could leave the country...but what does it take to gain some kind of joint citizenship between the usa and canada? i mean canada is exactly like america only difference is they actually CARE for its people (something i cant say now about this country after the traumatic event). so could anyone please tell me how i can go about that?

  1. skilled worker category.

You MUST have a degree and some work/job experience.

You need to have at least 1 years work experience in your chosen field before you can apply. 4 years is better - gives you more points.

You must meet the following minimum requirements to apply as a skilled worker:

You have at least one continuous year of full-time, paid work experience or the equivalent in part-time continuous employment.

Your work experience must be Skill Type 0 (managerial occupations) or Skill Level A (professional occupations) or B (technical occupations and skilled trades) on the Canadian National Occupational Classification (NOC).

You must have had this experience within the last 10 years.

assessment test - you must get 67 points to qualify.

application processing times in Skilled worker category

You will need $10,000 saved up - before you apply as you will be required to show this proof that you have this money when you apply.

Once you fill out the forms, gather all the reqwuired documents, and send in the application, it will take at least 2 years to be processsed. After you are apporved, then you can enter Canada and be admitted a s a PR (permanent resident). Then you must live in Canada for 3 years at least  before you can apply to become a Canadian citizen. That takes about 1 year to process.

So altogether you are looking at a minimum of 2+3+1 = or 6 years from NOW to becoming a Canadian citizen.

  2. You can apply as a skilled worker using the points system (if you have work experience) or maybe you can get a student visa if you want to continue your education. More info here  http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/s... and http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/study/index...
