  1. if your internet connection is still LIVE (not disconnected) you will need a MAC code which allows the new ISP to take over the current connection.

    For MOST ISP's this is an administrative thing to stop ISP's stealing each others customers and will be the same after the upgrade to fibre broadband  contrary to the last answer! changing over actually is only a keyboard thing at the exchange and requires no physical work.

    If your are changing to an ISP who has their own equipment at the exchange (eg talk talk) where you need your phone line to be transferred as well. then your phone will need to be disconnected form BT and connected to the service provider but this can be done in a hour at most!

    if you're staying with BT for your line this is simply a change over on a keyboard!


  2. Yes you need a MAC (Migration Authentication Code - I think) from your current ISP.  It's the device that allows your new ISP to unplug your current connection and connect theirs to your copper 'phone line.

    Roll on fibre to the home, there'll be none of this messing about...
