  1. About 20 years more experience.

  2. Applauds Desk3Bou on this one.

    1) Probably make sure your parents all have good health insurance.

    2) Make sure you have access to a video camera so you can post it on you tube and give us a link here, so we can use it as an example of what not to do.

  3. I give you guys kudos for setting a goal and going for your dreams....however....

it is not possible to open a club (where you charge money) without 1) a business license and 2) a place to train , 3) money for the rent and 4) training apparatus (kick shields, striking pad, etc). Your garage might work, but if something goes wrong and a club member hurts himself or herself, you're liable (more appropriately, your parents are liable).

If you're looking at having weekly training sessions at your house,...the liability does become an issue.  I assume that you two are responsible people, unlike the kids that used to meet at each other's houses to practice TV pro-wrestling moves and get themselves bashed or killed.

I agree with the others....get your black belts, at least. Study up on how to run a business. In the meantime, you two can draft out a "business plan" to start.....it'll change as time goes by, but at least its a start. Plan out your "mission statement"....what is it that you have to offer and what goal does your studio have?

If you want to teach someday, remain serious about it, but don't rush into it just yet. Allow yourself to have fun training, getting your instructorship levels, then put your plan to work.

When I was your age (about 14), I did those very same things while studying Karate. It took another 2 years for me to get my black belt, and another few years to get started teaching classes at local community centers. I taught for many years in the community centers and Boys and Girls clubs.... During that time, my business plan and mission statement was always on my mind....and now, I've been teaching in my own commercial studio since 1991, and loving every minute of it!

  4. Cody (the other guys said it a little more harsh than need be), you guys need to be more experienced if you want this to work. Some one could get hurt, and you guys may not know what your getting into. I recommend that you guys all go to a lovcal martial arts school and learn together there (pick whichever martial art you want to learn). Cody, martial arts are something that takes time to learn and even more time how to teach it effectively, and safely. They need to be taken serioulsy because someone can get hurt. Experience is something that is needed in this situation. Sorry if this is a downer to you and your friends.

  5. Your going to get hurt! Talk to your parents and make sure you don't try anything your not sure of. Just find a professional instructor to teach you.
