What do i need for an engine swap?

i have a 1983 chevy 3/4 ton 4x4 with a 4-speed manual trans, want to put 1987 tbi engine in it. I have the complete donor truck[auto trans] what will i need?

  1. If you have a full line of mechanics tools you should be OK. A cherry picker is really nice, but a hoist works. A couple of good sized jacks will come in handy on any under truck hangups. Pry bars are nice to have handy. All sorts of pullers can come in handy for making the job easier and getting things out of your way. Also, some sort of penetrant spray for those really hard bolts.

    Basically take all of your tools and make them accessible. You'll probably find a use for most of them. From experience, the more tool options you have, the easier the job will be.

    When working, remember to be patient! You will just break things tugging and pushing, when you really should have just loosened a nut or something simple.
