  1. It depends on what you'll be doing with your miniature.

The basics are a headcollar/halter and lead rope for catching and moving the pony. He or she will need somewhere to live where there is enough room to run around, with access to grass and water and preferably with some sort of companion as horses get lonely as they are herd animals. Also, a stable if you want to stable the pony. You'll need food buckets, water buckets, etc. And some brushes/grooming kit to keep the pony clean!

If you wanted tack for your miniature (for showing, maybe? - I don't know as I don't know much about the roles of miniatures) you would need a bridle, a bit, reins, and a saddle with stirrups, stirrup leathers, and a girth.

In chilly weather, some ponies get really cold and thus lose weight, become unwell, etc so you may want a rug/blanket to keep them warm. Stable rugs, light turnout rugs (for the summer), fly rugs (to keep the flies away) are all optional extras which you won't necessarily need.

I've got lots of horses and lots of kit so if you need any advice on anything else just ask :)

ALSO you'll need some sort of feed to give to your pony. The exact type will depend on the individual horse. You don't have to, but some people chose to even when their horse is at grass 24/7. If your pony will be stabled, you'll need shavings or straw for bedding.

Another thing is, if you're taking your miniature to live on a livery yard or other horses, it's probably worth worming him or her first and then getting them all vaccinated so that their vaccines are all in sync.

EDIT: To be honest, I got a horse because I wasn't getting enough experience just from riding and seeing the horses at the riding school. If you feel you might need practice looking after a horse, then get a miniature. It's not necessarily the size of the horse that determines whether or not you should get one: if you find a horse that suits what you want/need in a horse, perhaps a more docile and sensible horse with more maturity and wisdom than a younger one would be suitable if you haven't much experience with horses.

  2. I think a horse but only if you have experience.

    HERE YOU GO!

    *Grooming supplies

    *Halter

    *Lead

    *Fly mask

    *Fly spray

    *Swat

    *Corona

I think that is it for a miniature?!?!

    Good Luck!
