What do i need to attach an external hard drive to a DVR with an eSATA port?

I do not want to buy an external enlclosure and all of that. What kind of ports does the external drive need? What kind of cables do i need?

I have a piece of c**p TimeWarner DVR and it will only record 20 hours of HD with the DVR. Hardly anything...
