  1. Equipment found in a recording studio commonly includes:

A Mixing console, which is an audio mixer, also called a soundboard and it is an electronic device for combining / mixing; routing; changing the level, timbre and/or dynamics of audio signals.

A Multitrack recorder - You may use the computer as long as you have a digital interface, and multitrack recording software which must be installed (software is available at all price ranges or even free. Some good examples are Adobe Audition, Pro Tools, Cool edit pro 2.0, Sonar & Cubase just to name a few.

Then you need a good-quality microphone to record the vocals of a singer and/or any other sources of sound.

Reference monitors, which are loudspeakers with a flat frequency response.

Lastly, a good soundproofed room or  isolation booth  would be an asset. You need to keep out the external sounds and keep in the good ones.

Hope that helps to answer you question fully.

    Peace!
