  1. if you use external cable you dont need to cover it with anything

  2. Metal trunking

  3. Strictly speaking it is acceptable to run what is probably a 10mm PVC/PVC twin and earth cable cable on an outside wall. I feel that if the cable is close to the ground at any point, give it extra mechanical  protection as unauthorised personnel may interfere with it. Also if the wall borders a garden then the cable would be vulnerable if it is not further mechanically protected by trunking or conduit.   If you wished you could just protect the cable at the vulnerable lower points only, leaving the rest of the cable free to air.

  4. I always enclose pvc/pvc cables when running externally to protect the cable from sunlight UVA and to give additional mechanical protection from damage, it also looks neater than a cable just clipped, i would run inside a 32mm black pvc conduit fixed to the walls with saddles and fitted to a square enclosure where it goes through the wall.

When inspecting a property I would always comment on pvc/pvc cables run externally as requires improvement

  5. I've always avoided running T&E cable on external walls and I was sure that in the regs it was not allowed. I looked through the guidance notes and then did a search and I come up with this info for you.

I fact you only need to clip the cable to the wall.

If fact the (16th Ed) OSG in appendix 3 says T&E is generally suitable "on exterior surface walls, boundary walls and the like" with just a comment that protection from sunlight may be necessary.
