  1. Ethernet card on each computer (if not already built in).

    TCP/IP installed on each computer

A network router, switch, or hub

    Ethernet cables

If you're using a router, set it to use DHCP to hand out IP addresses automatically.

If you use a hub or switch, You'll need to assign all computers to the same network. For example, you could assign all computers to use a private IP address of 192.168.1.X, where X is a number between 2 and 254. Each computer's address must be unique.

  2. Computers with network cards: suggest 100 MB

!00 MB switch: Suggest switch have enough ports for the amount of computers you have plus some extras

Wiring: If computers are close together you can buy pre-made cables, with RJ-45 ends attached. Dont buy cables that are too short or too long.   If not you will need to wire your building.  Post if you need more info on this.

It is very possible that your computers (laptops) came with the network adapters already in them.

  3. RJ45 cable, RJ45 jacks, crimp tool. That is the first steps then you need if you would like hub or switch the PC.

    good luck

  4. A switching hub with enough ports for all your devices, and cable to connect your devices to it.

What I use is a firewall-router (which also has wireless), with 4 100-Base-T LAN outlets and one WAN outlet. The WAN connects  to the broadband modem and out on to the internet.

This setup allows devices on the other 4 ports to access the internet through the firewall.

You just connect each device via a cat-5 straight-through cable. Set all your devices to DHCP addressing, and configure DHCP on the router for the LAN and WAN ports.
