  1. swimming is the only thing that can get you in shape for swimming.

  2. Ideally, swim - even playing around in the water.  Water polo or other pool sport is ideal.

Keep doing the running stuff that keeps up your fitness level from soccer, but add some work for your shoulders and arms.

You don't need weights, just some upper body exercise - digging a hole, rowing, try to learn to walk on your hands.

No matter what, you'll be sore the first few days of practice.  Everyone else will be too.  Work through it and you'll do fine.

  3. Believe it or not, but swimming.  Just get into a pool and swim some laps and tread water or something.  You could also be lifting weights (but not too much or you could injure yourself).  I have been doing a lot of cross-training for swimming too.  I have been running and biking, which will help with endurance.
