  1. When you're done with your 2 year degree, transfer to a 4-year university and get your Bachelor's degree in a social science subject like criminal justice, sociology, or something like psychology. After you get your BA all you have to do is apply to a county government, as in California ( I'm from CA too) probation is run through the county. Hence, you would want to go to the county of San Francisco for example, and see if they have any openings for probation officers. Nowadays, as these positions are getting more and more competitive you will also probably need some kind of experience or internship. So, it wouldn't hurt to try and get some kind of internship or other volunteer job with some kind of counseling or casework position.

    Hope that helps!

  2. To be a probation officer you would have to be a Correctional Officer for about 2 years than apply for a probation officer position.

And sometimes they will request you have a BA

  3. Hello Brisely. You would need a minimum of a 2 year degree, over 21 years of age, driver's license, no legal restrictions against carrying a firearm and in good enough physical condition to pass the academy training.

Just to clarify another point here, county probation is misdemeanors. There is also an Adult Parole Authority, which is run by the state and this is for felony parole. Techically, that position is a Parole Officer, but the qualifications are the same. Better a=pay and benefits though.

Best of luck and I hope this is useful to you
