You need to go to a 4 year college and university first and get good grades (GPA 3.5 or higher) then you need to take your DAT (dental entrance exam). you then apply to dental school which is 4 years long. After dental school you are a dentist, you can do residency (training on the job sort-of) in general dentistry or several specialities, which can include surgical speciality. This can take several more years. Income for dentists is variable, especially if you consider that specialists and oral surgeons can make 3-4 times that of a general dentist.
