I just bought a HDTV but i have regular Directv service. When i plug in the tv, it seems like our old tv (sd tv) was way better. I need to know what i have to do in order to get hd from directv. Plus, i have 4 tvs in the house and i need to know that they wont be affected because they are normal sd tvs

  1. Contact DirecTV and upgrade to HD service.  Your local DirecTV contractor will come out and install a Ka/Ku dish and provide you with an HD receiver.  When everything is installed, you will see a difference in your picture clarity.  Your other TV's will not be affected in any way.

  2. Yes you can call DirecTv to get their programming in HD. But if you just want HD locals for FREE, get an old-school rabbit ears antenna and plug it into the old-school coaxial F-connector on the back of the TV (you know, the one that's silver colored and screws in), do a channel search on the TV, and BAM! Free high definition local channels.

And no, your other TVs aren't affected 'cause each TV is connected to an independent box and each box is independent of each other and if one of 'em is an HD box and the others are SD boxes, then they're still all independent of each other.
