  1. I homeschool children with disabilities. In NC, there are very low requirements. You must file, and you must test every year. Those test scores mean nothing, they don't go anywhere, you just have to keep them as part of your records. WWW.hslda.org will show you. Contact a local group like NCunschoolers for more info, they are VERY active and a great group.

Homeschooling my special kids has been much easier than having them in school. I can focus on their needs, rather than fighting the school to do it. I can provide supports that work for them, and go at their level.

You can contact me if you want to talk more!

  2. I just recently started homeschooling my special needs child.  It is much better, she is a lot happier and actually learning a lot more.

Here is a web site I found.  Also try calling the school district and ask for phone numbers and info.

If you look in your phone book or in the yellow pages under home schools in your area, you could get the phone numbers for schools and give them a call.  I home school through a virtual school and it is great.  They are very supportive and helpful.

  3. In addition to checking your homeschool laws at http://www.hslda.org you should contact NATHHAN

    http://www.nathhan.org

NATHHAN is an organization that supports those homeschooling special needs children.

  4. all i know is that you need to buy some of his grade level books other than that i have no idea sorry i couldn't help any more than that.

  5. What state do you live in?  (Each state has different laws and regs, this info will help us point you in the right direction.)

Also, are there any special circumstances, like a learning disability, giftedness, or a really bad experience in school?  Homeschooling is very customized to your child's and family's needs, but circumstances like these require special handling, so to speak.  Please clarify and we can give you better advice :-)  Thanks!

  6. Jean, if I were in your position, this is what I would do.  I would go on computer and do my "homework".  The computer is the largest library in the world.  Go into search for "home schooling" then search for "ADHD".  I am sure you will find the right information and the right books and etc to home school your baby.  I admire you Jean, this will be hard on you hun, but YOU CAN do it.  Blessings.

  7. Visit HSLDA.org and find your state's homeschool laws. That is how you start.
