  1. Well it sounds to me like you have everything you need. Just like the person above me said...but there is always something you can be working on. I would say work on getting your backhandspring on the gym floor...maybe get someone to come spot you on it a few times until you get the feel of it down. Also keep stretching...you can never be to flexible for cheerleading...splits is only about half as flexible as you need to be. Also really think about why you want to be a cheerleader in case they ask you at tryouts.

But really it sounds like you are good to go!

    Good Luck at tryouts girl!

O and just a note...make sure you do everything the coaches ask you to do at tryouts, and always, always keep a positive attitude!

  2. Thats great! There is almost no difference in a spring floor and the mat on the gym floor. I had the exact same problem and I made varsity! I have some try out tips on a website I made. Here's the link: www.freewebs.com/cheerchick262

I hope those help. Stretch when at all possible. I couldn't do the splits a month ago, but I stretch 2-5 times a day, if only for 5 minutes!

Try your best and GOOD luck!!! :)

  3. it all depends on the school 4 tumbling. some schools dont do tumbling, when most do.

but youll prob make it if you remember these things:

    1. Be loud and clear when you recite your cheers. make sure you are loud, and full of spirit.

    2. On try-outs, put your hair up in a neat ponytail, with a bow (your schools color), and put some glittery makeup on.

    3. Stay smiling!!

    4. You also want to ask plenty of questions, but not too many. Captains and coaches love people who are willing to learn.

    5. Practice, practice, practice!! The more you improve, the more likely you will make it!

    6. You will need to know how to do a stunt. If you are taller than other girls, then you will either be a base or a back spot. If you are on the small side, you will be a flyer, unless they have more expierenced people, then youll be a front spot. If you have NO CLUE, then ask the captain, or a returning cheerlader for some help.

    7. Dont be afraid to volunteer to go first in try outs, or to go first to recite a cheer!

good luck, i hope u make it!

  4. I think your only liability might be not having high enough tumbling skills, but the only way to be _sure_ of that is to ask the coach what the minimum requirements are.  In the meantime, get a qualified spotter and work on that BHS on the floor. You'll need a bigger jump back and a stronger block through the shoulders since there are no springs under you to help do the work. And if you need the splits then warm up really good and work on those at least 4 times a day.

    Good luck!

  5. jsut be ready to yell loud and to lift people. thats all you really need to work on.

and the floor that you cheer on, is like mats without springs and, trust me, i have done fulls and doubles on it, and its not that different

  6. It depends largely on which high school you want to go to.  Have you checked out their current team and what sort of moves they do?

Work on core stability so that when you are taught certain moves for the team performances then you will able to do them.  With the moves that you have got its important that you have also got natural abilty and potential to work with - its not about being the finished article just yet.

So, work on your flexibilty and core stability using things like balance boards or equivalent - that should help a lot!
