I am a UK citizen and intend to marry a jamaican in jamaica. I have no intention of bringing them over to the UK. I just need to know how to go about getting married in jamaica and who i need to contact regarding a marriage licence.

Thanks

  1. I got married in Jamaica and the only requirement was that  non-Jamaicans had to be in the country for three days prior to the ceremony. You have to obtain a licence and and an officiator for the ceremony, just as you would in the UK. Our wedding was organised by the hotel (we are both UK residents) and the Pastor's only stipulation was that he met us the day before the weding for pre-wedding counselling.

To double-check, contact the Jamaican High Commission, 1-2 Prince Consort Road, London SW7 2BZ. The telephone number is 020 7823 9911. They should be able to assist and there may be more information available on their website.

    Congratulations by the way! OC.

  2. Find out where the license office is and go there ask to apply for a marriage license! its that simple

  3. If you are planning to marry a Jamaican in Jamaica, why not ask him/her about the marriage process there. Is that not the easiest way? Can't the person you are planning to marry sort out the marriage licence? It must be common knowledge there.

If you are in the UK, you can call the Jamaican High Commission, and they will tell you what, if anything, you need to take with you.I have given their website below.

Below that I have given you a Jamaica wedding site with lots of interesting links.Lastly, I have given you the website of the Jamaican Tourist Bureau's page on marriage, which gives all the legal requirements, incuding about the marriage licence. That should be enough for you.

    Good luck and best Wishes.
