  1. You should contact an Italian embassy, most likely within Washington D.C. and ask them. They'll be able to counsel you the best on what's neccescary in terms of qualifications or steps to gain Italian citizenship.

    It's not a terribly challenging country to gain citizenship in, unlike Japan, Holland or Scandinavia.

    As a reccomendation, in terms of places within Italia...Tuscana (Tuscany) or Venecia (Venice) are BEAUTIFUL.

    Rome's dull and crowded, and Milan is basically an Italian Los Angeles...highly plastic and superficial. But Tuscany is gorgeous, and Venice is as well.

  2. Go there, tour around a bit and see if it is really what you want to do.  Do you speak Italian?  How would you earn your living?  When you have all these things sorted out then speak to the consular section of the Italian Embassy.
