  1. Well, first off for food you just want to eat some stuff that gives you energy. Pasta is good the night before for the carbs. Carbs help you, and you need the protein too. Track conditioning isn't too bad for most schools so you probably won't need to change your diet unless its really terrible.

I'm a guy so I would't know too much about the clothes. Except I know all the girls where short running shorts and just regular small t-shirts. Running shoes will be all you need for the track. When you start doing meets your coach will tell you what kind of track shoes you need, but definately get a decent pair of running shoes.

And no you wont look like a tomboy after unless you go crazy in the weightroom to increase your shotput/discuss numbers, but you wont be a thrower so dont worry about that.

    Pretty much it, good luck.

  2. Okay starting with clothes I have been running competitively for two years now and I am a female as well. Sports bras are completely necessary because hun all that bouncing is not comfortable. Get proper running shorts nothing cotton because of chafing, sweating, and itching. You need a good pair of running shoes expect to spend about $60-80 on a proper pair. I recommend either Asics or Saucony, but whatever you think is comfortable should be fine. On days that's it too hot to wear normal running T-shirts running/performance tops (they're like tank tops but they have built in sports bras) are best. Check out your local sports apparel retailer and ask what they recommend for California's climate. For training you shouldn't need to change your diet but avoid eggs, milk, and anything buttery or greasy like bacon for breakfast. Drink a lot of water and cut soda out of your diet or at least limit the amount to drink. Oh and don't worry you won't end up looking like a tomboy you'll look great with nice toned legs so break out those mini skirts. P.S. core training is key to running so do about 20 minutes of abs each night and you'll be good to go. Just have fun with running and don't be nervous it's just training and if you don't like it there is no comittment because it's an individual sport. (: I hope this helps and good luck.
